About Me
I am a junior researcher at the Centro de Investigaciones de Astronomía (CIDA) in Mérida, Venezuela; since 2015. Before that I spent three years as a postdoc at CIDA (2011-2013, 09/2015-11/2015) and two years at the IA-UNAM, Ensenada, México (2013-2015) working with Luis Aguilar (IA-UNAM) in the scientific exploitation of Gaia data in the field of Milky Way structure, which is my main topic of research.
Some of my research interests are: the structure and formation of the Milky Way, RR Lyrae and other variable stars as tracers of Galactic Structure, Bayesian statistics and Inverse Stellar Population Synthesis.
During my Ph. D. I worked under the supervision of Kathy Vivas (CIDA) and my thesis consisted on a large-scale RR Lyrae star survey aimed at studying the structure of the Galactic Thick Disk (see Thick Disk RRLyrae). For my Bachelor’s thesis I also worked with Kathy Vivas, in an RR Lyrae star survey of the Canis Major overdensity, a suspected dwarf galaxy at the time (see Canis Major Paper).
I obtained my Ph.D. in Physics at the Universidad Central de Venezuela (UCV) in 2011 and my Bachelor’s degree in Physics at the Universidad Simón Bolívar (USB) in 2005.
